John began CrossFit in college at North Carolina State University after being a competitive runner, wrestler and lacrosse player throughout high school. Being a “poor college kid” though, he never joined an actual gym until moving to Warner Robins for the Air Force. John earned his Level I certificate in December 2014 and began coaching in January. In February of 2016, he also earned his USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach certificate. Outside of the gym, John enjoys spending time with his dog, movies, grilling out, and long walks off short planks.
